Cheryl Broadhurst, Lead Teacher 3 year old classroom
Cheryl has enjoyed and been involved in early childhood education for many years. From 1987 through1989 she worked as a lead teacher at St. Paul’s Christian school. From there she moved on to be the assistant director at BCC’s first child development center (1989 – 1990). Cheryl put her career and education on hold for about ten years when she away from Florida to raise her children: Sean (now 29) and Brooke (now 25). She returned to Central Florida in 2002 and picked up where she left off as a Lead Teacher in the 3 year old class at Good Beginnings Childcare. Later Cheryl went on to be a lead teacher at Headstart from 2003-2005. During that same year she came to visit Dr. Sally Shinn, a friend from college, and was offered a job at SCEIC on the spot! Cheryly began her SCEIC career in 2005 working in the 3 year old classroom, and in 2007 she became the lead teacher there. Despite Cheryl’s impressive resume and thorough knowledge of childcare, she strives to learn more; she has returned to BCC to finish the education that she began in 1987! This coming May she will graduate from with her associate’s degree and in the fall of 2009 she plans to attend UCF in pursuit of her Bachelor’s degree! Cheryl says that her greatest accomplishment is raising two wonderful children who are kind and loving. She is also excited to share that her son and daughter in law will be having their first child this coming January. Congratulations on being a grandmother Cheryl!!

Lisa Henley, Lead Teacher 1 year old room
Lisa Henley has been the lead teacher at SCEIC working with their youngest children since 2006. Lisa’s experience prior to this has been: SCEIC Teaching Assistant (2005 – 2006), working for: Brevard Community College in the Palm Bay Child Development Center (2004-2005), also at Baumholder’s Childcare (2002), as well as BCC’s Montessouri School (2000 – 2002), and Holmes Regional Infant Childcare specializing in children 6 weeks to 6 months (1999). Lisa completed her CDA (Child Development Associate) in 1998, is Montessori trained, and is 15 credits shy of her A.S. degree. She has always loved children, and from early on in her life, Lisa’s mother told her that she was gifted and would make a wonderful teacher, and so she has! Lisa has been married for 8 years and prides herself in surviving as a military wife. She feels lucky to have a beautiful son, Dylan, and to have her husband back from Iraq!

Maureen Mosquera, Lead Teacher 4 year old classroom
Maureen Mosquera has been with SCEIC for nearly 4 years and has been a tremendous asset to SCEIC! Maureen’s background is in Communication Disorders; she earned her Bachelors degree from LSU in 1997. Maureen brings an array of experiences to SCEIC; she spent 1 year as an assistant Physical Therapist, 6 months doing newborn hearing tests, 4 years in the school system, and 15 years teaching Pre – K. Maureen took time off when he had her son Quentin, but when he turned 2, she went back to work. After hearing about SCEIC through fundraisers, Maureen decided SCEIC would be a great new adventure and she would be able to have her young son on site with her. The fit was impeccable and Maureen has been here ever since! In addition to Quentin, who is now in Kindergarten, Maureen has three older children: Jordan, Zachary, and Erika. As if four children and a full time job were not enough, Maureen also finds time to be the volunteer volleyball coach for the freshman team at Palm Bay High as well as volunteering with St. Joseph’s church for the past eight years. Maureen was the well deserving recipient of the 2007-2008 Hidden Potentials Teacher of the Year Award. Way to go Maureen!

Lisa Meeks, Lead Teacher 5 year old room
Lisa Meeks is an SCEIC veteran; she has been here for almost 13 amazing years! In 1993 Lisa obtained her AA from BCC, and then earned a BA in psychology from the University of Central Florida in 1995. After graduation, Lisa knew that she wanted to work with children, but she was unsure of what type of job was right for her. She applied to Devareaux, considering work with juvenile delinquents. While she waited for their response she happened upon SCEIC and was hired as a substitute teacher. Two weeks later SCEIC was looking for a new teaching assistant and Lisa was offered the position. Lisa accepted the offer and the rest is history! In 2002 Lisa went back to UCF to pursue a master’s degree in Exceptional Education, which she gained in 2004. Lisa truly provides an exceptional education for every student who walks through her door. In 2007 Lisa was recognized by Hidden Potentials as Teacher of the Year. Lisa is also certified to teach Level 1 Handwriting without Tears as a part of her VPK (Voluntary Pre Kindergarten) program. Lisa is happily married and while she has no children of her own, she always says she has 18 from SCEIC! At home she loves spending time each day playing Frisbee with her German Shepherd, traveling and watching sports with her friends and family. Lisa says that spending time with her family is her #1 thing to do.
