Ms. Tocarra’s Class

Ms. Tocarra works with preschoolers of varying abilities to ensure they meet age appropriate milestones in cognitive, gross and fine motor, language, social/emotional and sensory integration. Here are some of the ways we help students meet age appropriate milestones.

Cognitive

  • identifying upper-case letters through small group activities
  • counting various items
  • one-to-one correspondence
  • identifying numbers 1-20
  • arranging items from largest to smallest
  • learning parts of the body
  • learning 1st, 2nd, 3rd..

Gross Motor

  • Jumping broad jumps
  • Hopping on one foot
  • skipping on alternate feet
  • building with large blocks
  • playing games such as soccer on the WII
  • hammering golf-tees in play-doh

Fine Motor

  • lace beads
  • cut with scissors
  • using clothes pins
  • peeling stickers
  • building with small blocks

Language

Receptive language skills:

  • pointing to items upon request
  • following 3 step directions

Expressive language skills:

  • retelling events in a story

Social/Emotional
