Meet the Staff

Lead Teacher

Ms. Maureen Mosquera

Ms. Maureen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University.  She has been at SCEIC  since 2005.  A VPK and Handwriting without Tears certified instructor, Ms. Maureen brings over 20 years of teaching experience to the Center.  In 2008, she was awarded Teacher of the Year from Hidden Potentials.

Respect for others is a philosophy that Ms. Maureen works to instill in the classroom. “Sharing is an option. We can request to use someone’s belongings, and respect their answer even if it is NO.”   Teaching strong social skills to students ensures acedemic success.

Ms. Maureen enjoys the challenge of working with children with and without special needs in an inclusive environment. She says her greatest joy is helping children to succeed.

Teaching Assistants

Tamara Sprague
Tamara has been a member of the SCEIC team since 2005.  She holds a CDA (Child Development Credential).  Tamara was introduced to the childcare field in high school.  Her mom advised her to make a list of things that she might want to do, and she made her class selections from the narrowed down list.  Her last year of high school, she applied for a job and was hired at SCEIC.

Tamara most enjoys the trusting and lovable nature of children.  “A child can truly change a person.  They light up your day just by things they say.”  Recently married, Tamara is looking forward to one day starting a family of her own and becoming a teacher to her own children.

Ursula Henley

Ursula has over 40 years of experience teaching children of all ages.  Her CDA and VPK certification make her an excellent addition to the VPK program.  Ursula has always wanted to be a teacher and never tires of learning new instructional strategies.  She says even after all these of teaching, “I am still interested in learning new things”.   Over the years, she has taken many classes to learn how to create developmentally appropriate lessons using a variety of teaching and communication methods.  She joined SCEIC in 2011.
