Ms. Melissa Antone has a Bachelors in Business Administration and is currently working towards a Masters Degree in the Early Childhood education field. She is a certified Infant and Toddler Developmental Specialist.
Most people who know Melissa would be surprised to hear that her first career choice was sales and business. She didn’t see teaching in her future until she began to volunteer here at SCEIC. She displayed a natural knack for teaching, and pretty soon she was hooked. She says, “My old job had monetary rewards, but now the reward is seeing the look on a child’s face when they succeed in a task- seeing the connection they make with the learning process. And equally rewarding is the joy of seeing parent’s reaction when their child does something they’ve never been able to do before- it gives me goosebumps!”
Ms. Melissa helps students learn through play, to communicate their wants and needs, and basic socialization skills. Parents can learn techniques they can bring home and use everyday. Many families with special needs children have little or no support system. By bringing families with and without special needs together through the Early Experience Program, these families are able to form friendships that will last for years to come.
